Excited yet? This looks to be a promising year for many of the major watch brands. Industry leader Patek Philippe will not disappoint on their 175th Anniversary - and other brands must either keep up, or quietly lurk in the shadows, risking irrelevancy.

Many questions surround Rolex's 2014 releases. Will it be as mundane as adding a different dial or metal configuration to existing models, or will they introduce another groundbreaking model, such as the SkyDweller? We will know in about 3 weeks.

Being a fan of off-beat brands, I am excited to handle the new Glashutte Original PanoMaticInverse due to be released in 2014. Per their press release: "The new PanoMaticInverse reveals the splendor of its automatic movement by making the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment visible from the dial side, allowing this exceptional achievement of the art of engineering to come to the fore." And by the looks of it, it'll be a winner:

I wish we were more enthralled with Ulysse Nardin's promise for this year, but it looks like more of the same-ol, attempting to resuscitate the Dual Time model line which has been flat for years, with the exception of the Executive, of course. Yawn.

Brands will be 'leaking' news in the coming weeks. To stay in tune, keep visiting www.baselworld.com often. The fair will take place earlier this year, March 27th through April 3rd.
